Tyson Hugh Hooper

Tyson Hugh Hooper
Our son, Tyson Hugh Hooper, was born with coarctation of the aorta, hypoplastic arch, and a transitional avsd. His first open heart surgery reconstructed his aorta and was on day 9 of life. His second open heart repair was not anticipated to be needed until two or three years of age. Ty had other plans. We spent the vast majority of his first 3 months of life at Vanderbilt as he went into heart failure and was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. As a result, the medical team concluded that he needed the repair much sooner than usually recommended, and at just shy of 3 months old Ty underwent his second life saving open heart surgery. God has already worked so many miracles in Ty's life and the life of our family and we know he is using our story. Because of this, we are grateful for Ty's special heart and feel beyond blessed that God chose us to travel this road. We ask for prayers as Ty continues to heal. We are praying for a full recovery and life without restrictions for Ty. We are praying for God to use our family and Ty for His glory.

Thank you to each and every person who supports us through prayer, giving, or just by loving on our family! We are humbled and blessed by all of the ways the Lord is providing for us and know that he is using Ty and his story to do great things!

Look Who's Two!!!

Months, that is!  ;-)
I simply can't get over how fast our baby girl is growing!!!  I can't even keep up on a daily basis!  It's amazing and wonderful and bittersweet!  Some days I wish I could stop time and just enjoy this age and this size because I know as early as tomorrow she will be bigger and older!

(Thanks Jennifer, for the blanket - we love it, as you can see!!)

Here is our beautiful Ava Grace at two months old...
Mommy loves my sweet sleeping face!  She says it makes her heart hurt how sweet I look!  I just am trying to get some rest so I can play some more... oh, and so I can eat some more!  I love to eat... even though I still think my formula is kind of yucky.  Speaking of eating... Dr. Johnson says I am in the 83rd percentile in weight - he says I'm a "petite chunky monkey" because I am only in the 32nd percentile in height!  It doesn't bother me though!

Mommy insists on tummy time daily!  I don't know what the big deal is!!  I hold my head up ALL. THE. TIME when I am on her shoulder or daddy's shoulder and sometimes when I am sitting in someone's lap or in my car seat, I sit UP and hold my head up and look around!  She STILL makes me do this tummy time thing to "strengthen my muscles."  Really Mama?  Is this necessary?  I'm not loving it.... and I'm not lifting my head while I'm down here either!

My most favorite thing other than eating is being naked!  Naked, naked is the best, but I enjoy just a diaper too!  See my new quilt that Grandmommy made for me?  It's my new favorite!  I play on it every day!

My favorite time of day is a toss up between morning and evening.  I love the early mornings when mommy snuggles me in bed and I am all smiles for daddy when he kisses me goodbye.  I also love the late afternoon when Daddy gets home!  Once he is home, all I want to do is snuggle in his lap!  He thinks I'm too little to miss him during the day, but he's wrong!  Mommy says I'm a different baby when he gets home!  I just want to play with Daddy and then get in my special snuggly spot with him on the couch and drift off to sleep!

Speaking of sleep... Mommy's trying to "sleep train" me!  Haha!  Seriously mom?  She has this crazy idea I shouldn't just nap wherever anymore, that I should nap in my crib.  I compromise by spending some time in there every day... but it's not my favorite.  I'd rather sleep in my swing, so when I wake up after about 30 minutes I ask her really sweet (by puckering out my bottom lip and filling my eyes with real big tears) if I can go back in the living room with her and sleep in the rocker with her or in my swing.

Mommy has a weird thing for my feet and my belly.  She kisses all over me every day!

I'm STILL keeping Mama and Daddy guessing as to my eye color and my hair color!  Ha!  It's kind of funny... they can't figure it out!  Daddy is starting to lean towards thinking I am going to have green eyes.  My big sister thinks hazel.  Mommy says she just doesn't know yet!  And my hair?  Well... it's light brown... but every now and then look what happens....

...it looks red!  Haha!  Daddy says I don't have red hair, but Grandmommy and Mama think it's possible that I might end up with hair the color of my Daddy's goatee!  I think I'll keep 'em guessing a little while longer!  After all, I'm just two months old.

Maybe when I turn three months old...  ;-)

Dear Ava Grace,
You tell your daddy that it's totally possible for you to have red hair from his goatee! That's where my red hair is from--my dad's beard! Nowhere else! You are too cute!
